Java 2004/2006 Emergency Conversion Utility 1.11
Fix for Internet Explorer ActiveX Update with automatic activation of ActiveX controls
© Image Intelligence Software Ltd. 2003-2006
Towards the end of 2003, a court case between Microsoft and a small company called Eolas provisionally required changes to the way in which media objects, such as flash and java, were embedded into web pages. The cause of this was a patent filed by Eolas several years earlier. However before the threatened 2004 version of Internet Explorer was released, the patent itself was challenged and the issue disappeared from the agenda for two years. In April 2006, Microsoft then released what appears to be a similar update with similar effects, but on a lesser range of platforms than originally announced. In addition, it is little known that due to a bug in Netscape 6, going back several years, the same work-around for reliable media embedding in some N6 versions is also required.
This conversion utility allows web designers to convert pages in seconds, without worrying about the technical details involved. Please note the FAQ at the bottom of this page. FAQ:- Things that can cause this utility to malfunction include: missing or malformatted HEAD, BODY, APPLET, EMBED and OBJECT tags. It relies on these tags to be correctly written. Remember that many people don't realise that their close tags are missing because often web pages still look OK without them. In fact, even with missing HEAD and BODY tags, a page can look OK - so beware!
- If you find that it's still going wrong, you can contact us at Happy Menus. If you don't tell us, we won't know and so we won't be able to do anything!
- If you're wondering why you need this for Netscape 6, there is in fact a little known and absolutely fatal bug in Netscape 6 affecting the APPLET tag which requires this same work-around as well.
- If you have 100's of pages to convert and/or need some kind of dynamic custom solution for converting your embedded media, please contact us for a custom solution.
